ATL
Afternoon y'all,
Let's talk about my birthday weekend. I turned 26 (insert applause*) and it was magical. Not just because I decided to make the day all about me, regardless of others input, but because I truly spent the time with people I care about, doing what I wanted to do, with no exceptions. YAS GURL. For my birthday weekend the boy toy, myself, and a wonderful friend decided to take a road trip to good ole' ATL, aka Atlanta, aka the Big Peach, aka Empire of the South. As my first time in the city I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm a small town girl with a big city mind so I was open to all the Big Peach had to offer, and I was NOT disappointed.
For starters: getting there. If you haven't flown through ATL on a connecting flight, you probs have a private jet and don't care about my peasant life gallivanting. That being said, there is almost always a cheap direct flight to Atlanta from just about anywhere. If that's too expensive for you, driving is also a totally viable option from many Southern and Midwestern cities. We drove from Louisville, KY and made it in a bit less than 6 hrs. The drive itself is scenic as well as fairly congestion free until you get to the outer boundaries of the city.
One you actually enter the city there is ALWAYS something to do. We personally went for a music festival, Music Midtown, and had a blast (more on that later). The city hosts major festivals, Broadway shows, concerts, etc. all times of the year. If you just want to peruse the city on a budget, you are in luck as well. Atlanta is home to many free outdoor spaces, I can vouch personally for the beauty of Piedmont Park. If you're the indoor type, you HAVE to hit up Ponce City Market: window shop fo days (I spent a full hour fan-girling at West Elm), walk the Beltline and see local artists fare ( got myself the CUTEST cat cartoon for my kitchen), or sample all the foods in the Food Hall (http://www.poncecitymarket.com/food-hall/) .
Now for the meat and potatoes, MUSIC MIDTOWN. This festival was bonkers. The line-up was amazing (https://www.musicmidtown.com/lineup/), the venue beautiful (Piedmont Park), and the foods amazing (lots of yummy food trucks). Cons: food lines got REAL long later in the day, beer was $10, the mosh pit became a mud pit by the end of the day. Overall I was SUPER happy with it. For around $140 I got up close and personal with Bastille, Bruno Mars, Future, Judah and the Lion and so many more of my favorites (WAYYYY cheaper than seeing just Bruno alone in my home town -$400 for nose bleeds) AND got to explore a new city.
Atlanta, I’m a fan
